Family Medicine

Our goal is to provide continuing and comprehensive medical care, health maintenance and preventive services to each member of the family regardless of sex, age, or type of problem, be it biological, behavioral, or social.

Our providers, because of their background and interactions with the family, are best qualified to serve as each patient's advocate in all health-related matters, including the appropriate use of consultants, health services, and community resources. Our office will order referrals and lab work when necessary and look forward to providing you with your medical needs

Occupational Health Service

Our occupational health services include CDL physicals and pre-employment drug screening. We also provide standard pre-employment health evaluations.

We work with most insurances and our billing office will be more than happy to set up arrangements with employers.

Weight Management

Our Weight Loss Program is here to help our patients lose excess weight and obtain a healthy lifestyle. The one time initial cost of $100 covers medication for a month and bi weekly B 12 shots. While in our weight loss program you will weigh in when you visit our office, and your progress will be recorded and available to you.

Suboxone

Suboxone & Pain Management

Our suboxone program has been enacted to assist patients with the task of breaking free from opioid dependency and also to manage patients chronic pain. Here at MMS we have a two tiered system to approach pain management and opioid dependency. We insist every patient who enrolls in our program be involved with weekly counseling. These counseling sessions are here to provide support and feedback from peers while you seek your way through this important chapter in your life. Dr. Fann

Benjamin Fann M.D.Dr. Fann is somewhat of a local being raised in Johnson City, TN and attending ETSU for his undergraduate degree. He later attended the University of Colorado for medical school then completing his residency in Chattanooga, TN. After residency he worked for the National Health Services Hospital in rural eastern KY. He then moved to Asheville, NC and worked for MASHEC for six years. Dr.Fann owned a private practice in Asheville, until starting family practice and acute care in Boone, NC in 2007. Dr. Fann has focused on weight loss management, natural hormone replacement, and wellness care over the past several years and applies his passion towards individualized care to every patient here at MMS. Dr. Fann, as well as the entire MMS staff, is enthusiastically looking forward to working with patients and the community here in the High Country at Mountaineer Medical Services

Thomas Church

Thomas Church FNPThomas is a local resident born 50 miles south of Boone, raised in Lenoir , NC and currently resides in northern Caldwell county.Thomas has various occupational experiences with a variety of educational experience to subsidize his medical knowledge. Thomas graduated Appalachian State University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Management. He decided that the healthcare profession was his passion, enrolling in nursing school in 2000, graduating with his bachelors degree in 2004. He has various specialty work experience, including Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care Unit experience, along with Acute Care Transport experience. Thomas graduated from East Tennessee State University in 2008. He has been employed primarily in Boone, NC for the previous two years working in Family Medicine, Urgent Care and more recently, Total Vein Care. Thomas is currently accepting new patients and is excited to be a member of Mountaineer Medical Services.

Becky WatsonBecky brings years of clinical hands on experience to MMS and DATA. She is not only a licensed CAN, she is also certified to perform drug screens as recognized by the North Carolina Judicial System. Serving dual roles as the lead in the Drug and Alcohol Testing Authority section of our office and assisting in patient services as medical support, Becky serves a vital role at MMS. Feel free to contact Becky with any of your DATA/MMS concers.
Cathy WinklerCathy is an asset to Mountaineer Medical Services as she brings forth vast clinical experience. She is native of Caldwell County, and has worked locally in Boone for the past five years. Cathy is a licensed CNA and a certified Medical Office Assistant. She is extremely important to Patient Services at MMS, and the team is excited to have her on board.

Pam Lankford B.S.W, M.A.

Pam is from Charlotte, NC and has been living in Watauga County for 9 years. Pam has a Bachelors degree in Social Work, and a Masters Degree in Human Services: Marriage and Family Counseling.Pam is also a therapeutic foster parent for Barium Springs Home for Children. Pam has four children and three grandchildren. Pam has worked in the field of social work, as an IA&T and foster care social worker for Ashe County DSS. Pam also worked as the Child and Family Team Facilitator for Ashe County DSS. Pam looks forward to meeting and counseling those who are in need.

Bill Bradshaw - Office ManagerRecently graduating from Appalachian State University with degrees in Business Management and Business Psychology, Bill is currently pursuing his Masters degree in Business Administration. Bill handles many of the day to day tasks of MMS and is charged with public relations and patient advocacy.Feel free to contact Bill with any of your administrative concerns as he is instrumentalin the daily operations here at Mountaineer Medical Services.
Jimmy Kerr-Administration Suport/Customer RelationsDouble majoring at Apallachian State in Recreation Management annd Sociology, Jimmy Kerr is a new addition to our team.Growing up only 30 miles away in Wilkes County and, spending the last seven years in Boone, Jim has anextensive knowledge of the area and community. He has worked withthe providers of MMS over the past few years and is excited to join here atMMS.Contact Jim for any administrative or patientrelated concerns.Jimmy is here to assist patients in any inquirythey might have. From frontdesk operations to marketing,Jimmy is here to help in alloperational applications of MMS.

Drug and Alcohol Testing Authority

Drug Alcohol and Testing Authority operates under North Carolina state certification and is operated by Beck Watson. DATA offers hair and urine drug screening as well as alcohol testing. We offer pre-employment and random employment screening, services for Appalachian State University, and CDL physical screens.
